This Corporate Responsibility Report is for the 2008 financial year, from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008, although both historical and forward-looking data are provided for information purposes. The report is produced on an annual basis and the report for the prior period (FY2007) is available on the website. Information in this report is with respect to FY2008 unless otherwise stated and information is provided in South African rand. Where dollar amounts are provided, this is for the sake of convenience and refers to US dollars ($).

For the purpose of corporate responsibility reporting, the company has provided statistics for those operations over which it has management control or significant influence. Where relevant, information relating to operations in which the company has an interest is provided. There were no significant changes in the organisational structure, during the year, other than the sale of Implats’ stake in Aquarius Platinum Limited. (Refer to the Annual Report for further details.)

The production of this report has been undertaken in line with the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) G3 guidelines. An index indicating which GRI indicators have been reported on, and where information may be found, is available in this report. GRI’s reporting principles for defining the report content, quality and boundary setting have been used as guidelines.

Implats has during the year indicated its subscription to the principles of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and has applied to become a signatory. An indication of its reporting in line with the UNGC may be found in this report.

Selected indicators have been independently assured by a third party assurance provider. The indicators selected and the independent statement of assurance is provided here. In accordance with the GRI guidelines, Implats has declared a B+ level of reporting.

In addition to this report, the company has produced:
